NCF Comedy started at the Nottingham Comedy Festival back in 2009. Since then we have completed fourteen successful festivals and have gone on to run regular comedy nights in and around Nottinghamshire and the Midlands throughout the year.
We pride ourselves in bringing both well known and brand new comedians to both the shows and the festivals. Names have included the likes of: Joe Lycett, Katherine Ryan, Doc Brown, Gary Delaney, Ivo Graham, Ellie Taylor, Tom Wrigglesworth, Tom Stade, Dane Baptiste and Lost Voice Guy (all at shows) and Rhod Gilbert, Jason Manford, Billy Connolly, Armstrong & Miller and The Comedy Store Players (at festivals).
The Canalhouse Comedy Night is our regular New Act / New Material Night. This show has won multiple awards at the Midlands Comedy Awards. (Best Small Club 2021 & 2018 | Best Open Mic Night 2016 | Best East Midlands Open Mic Night 2015) This show brings together a range of comedians. From professionals practising their new material to brand new acts at the beginning of careers.
NCF Comedy is run by Helen Stead (Director) with support from a small team. We are based in Nottingham.
Helen Stead: Director
Helen started the Nottingham Comedy Festival in 2009 along with her friend Rachel. Since then she has expanded the company to include regular comedy nights and to hold corporate comedy events (this now under the name of NCF Comedy) She prides herself on giving both well established and brand new acts stage time and providing the public with the best possible shows.
Before going into the comedy industry Helen graduated with a Media Production Degree from Lincoln University and went to work for companies such as the BBC. In September 2008 she joined the local improvisation comedy group, Missimp, where she was a regular member for a number of years. She now works full time in comedy.
